This was totally fun... in a word
So, what's going on here? The furniture piece that Jaime is lounging on is a gossip bench or telephone seat. My grandfather had this one in his farm house and it has been passed on to me after he passed away this summer. It's not an antique but I can't find one just like it, one that it's supposed to be modeled after. We were guessing early 1900's style. The telephone came from a local pawn shop. I'd been eyeing it since the spring, even before I got the bench, just because I liked it and thought, "I'd love to do something with that." When my mom told me she'd gotten the bench for me from the estate, my husband went out and bought the phone for me. As for the dress, shawl, boa, and stockings, those were all wonderful Ebay finds. However, the bracelet is authentic to 1932 or roundabouts, it was given to my grandmother as a confirmation present in 1932 and she had given it to me when I was in the 6th grade. I love that bracelet and am so happy I was able to use it to incorporate not just one, but two of my grandparents (and two sides of my family) into this shoot.
It's hard to see and the scan is not good, but my grandma is wearing the bracelet that Jamie wears, on her confirmation day (see photos below).
And Jamie was just such a great sport, we all really got into it, complete with big band/swing music. :)
